Charlotte Cynthia Video + Damag3 Clothing

Daniel from El Kartel took a video during Charlotte Cynthia Waltons show "Givers". Check out Daniels clothing line called "damag3" The new shirt he did with Luke Ramsey looks insane.

damag3 t-shirt - designed by Luke Ramsey

I was lucky to get a shirt designed by Daniel with a graphic created by Peter Taylor. The image is all chopped up and abstracted. When the shirt is folded like origami the image is created.

Charlotte Cynthia Walton - Givers

Art show by Charlotte Cynthia Walton If your in Vancouver you definitely have to check out "Givers" an art show displaying the work of Charlotte Cynthia Walton. The show runs from July 26 through till Sept 01, 2008 at El Kartel on Robson Street in Vancouver.

This show is all about the givers in my life the ones who have kept me strong and sentimental, the people who give constantly and don't ask for anything in return, bless your hearts this is a celebration for you!  Each of us brings inspiration and guidance to this beautiful world. We are all brilliant as brilliant as we want to shine. Much love has gone into making this for you, and I hope much love will continue to inspire others to do just things in this life. The more you practice your ideals the easier it will be for you to become them. For me it is being sincere, creative, and taking care to give more than I take from this earth.

Abracadabra ScreenPrint Poster Process

I had the opportunity to design and screenprint the Abracadabra art show and book launch poster. Here are some  photos from the screen-printing process. The poster is a 4 colour design, the third colour being a faint gloss spot colour. The poster was screen-printed at the Seriscope Studio. First I started out with a quick sketch which was then realized in Adobe Illustrator. Illustrator is great for creating geometric shapes, it's quick and easy to resize images and makes for a good program to mess around with. Photoshop can be a little more static because your actually painting pixels, which can be hard to make changes. The colours of the design on screen are only a guideline when choosing colours for printing. The final decisions happen when mixing inks right before the print. Here is the final design.

When screenprinting you must separate each colour, which is then "burned" to separate screens. These screens are used one at a time to lay down individual colours. You will notice an olive green colour that was created by overlapping the light green and peachy/tan colour.  I'm not gonna go to much into screenprinting because all the info is out there on the internet. Here are the four stages of the poster printing.

1. First Colour - Peachy / Tan

2. Second Colour - Bright Green

3. Third Colour - Transparent Cotton Candy Pink Gloss

4. Fourth Colour - Black

The Abracadabra posters will be available to purchase in the coming days through our online shop.  The edition is signed & numbered / limited to 30. Pre-orders are being accepted via email.

Pulp Fiction at Museum London

Pulp Fiction an art show at Museum London. Pulp Fiction Museum London - July 26 to November 16

Organized by guest curator Corinna Ghaznavi, this exhibition examines the work of a new generation of graphic artists, contextualizing their work within national and international trends. While the works in Pulp Fiction do not necessarily contain lurid subject matter, they tend to be loose, non-linear narratives that incorporate a comic-book aesthetic and multiple references to popular culture. Strange characters float across the page or screen, seemingly disjointed small scenes are found on the same page, and text is often present. Where there is a narrative it most often takes strange twists and turns that are darkly humourous or sometimes simply wry, or simple observations on the world around us.

The exhibition of drawing, painting, video and installation features work by Marc Bell and Peter Thompson, Tasha Brotherton, Barry Doupe, Liz Garlicki, James Kirkpatrick, The Lions (Tasha Brotherton, Matthew Brown, Barry Doupe, Collin Johanson, James Whitman), Amy Lockhart, Jason McLean and Mark DeLong, Jennie O’Keefe, Seth Scriver and Shayne Ehman.

KRAZY! @ the Vancouver Art Gallery

Krazy at the Vancouver Art Gallery ( VAG )

I wasn't that KRAZY! about the current show at the VAG. It was worth seeing, but felt like I had missed something after the experience. I slipped between the cracks of the target audience the VAG was going for. The show seems to be directed towards people who have no prior contact with the comic industry and for the die hards that want to see original sketches etc. I had hoped to gleen an inside look into the artists and their work, but ended up seeing allot of pages from comics I have read. What else could the VAG done, to make the experience more fulfilling? I don't know. Projecting Akira on 4 opposing walls of an enormous room seems like filler to me. KRAZY! puts comics & anime on a fine art pedestal which I believe they deserve to be, but they don't seem to be comfortable standing up there.

Jeff Ladouceur - Inflatable Character at the VAG

The huge inflatable character created by Jeff Ladouceur hanging from the front of the VAG. By the time we got to check the show the character had deflated. It seemed fitting. Photo to come, I have to get the film developed...

I'm still digesting the show so don't have much to add to the debate, but you can read more about what others think of the KRAZY! show at the VAG here:
